This picture does not show the entire mendhi stage, however, it will give you some idea of the colour theme, gold, white and green.
This is the two tiered cake that I made for the party. I am amazed that it survived the ceremony as it had no internal support structure whatsoever! I used gold dust for the top tier of the cake. I found it quite difficult to get even coverage.
These are the mini cakes that I made to go with the main cake. I would have loved to have done more intricate designs but there was a stage to be built!

First Carvings
Friday, 16 April 2010
When I first attempted fruit carving I trawled through countless images online to see what I could try out. I came across this beautiful image of a fruit platter, which didn't actually have any fruit carving, but I liked it so much that I took inspiration from it.
I've found that if I create something it always looks better when I add garnish to it. So I decorated this plate and put my first fruit carving in the centre. It looks very basic, has a lot of mistakes and could have been done by an amateur...
Like me!
Eventually I think I started getting better. The same weekend I did this galia melon I made a cantaloupe rose bowl. In my opinion they are worlds apart though still not brilliant. What do you think?

Beginnings

I thought I would share one of the first cakes that I had baked and decorated, though there were many others before, i do not have any pictures. Note the unevenness of the cake, I've since learned that there are many techniques to ensure nice level cakes some of which I have acquired through reading and some that I have developed myself, which I hope to share in later posts. Also it is very evident that the cake is about to buckle in at the side, again due to uneven bases. I used buttercream to decorate this cake and fondant flower cut outs. I knew very well at the time that this cake was anything but amazing, but my family liked it, especially my daughter who was 2 at the time! ( The tray is pretty cool though!)
